William Russell, born about 1700 is the first of ours, known to
me. His wife is unknown but he had, at least, five children; John; Jemima
married Valentine Sevier II; George is noted below; Lydia married William Bean
Jr.; and Absolum.

George Russell was born in 1720 in
Laudoun County, Virginia, and married Elizabeth Bean about 1745. Elizabeth was
born November 25, 1723 at Saint Stevens Parish, Northumberland County,
Virginia, a daughter of William and Margaret Hatton Bean of Virginia.
George and Elizabeth had eight
children; George Jr. married Rebecca, maiden name unknown; Major William
married Agnes Smith and Charity, maiden name unknown; Sarah married Isaac Lane;
Lydia married James Roddye; Mary married Noel Jarnagin; Jemima married George
Horner; Elizabeth married Captain John Horner; and Lewis is noted below.

Lewis Russell was born April 5, 1774 at the Watagua County, North
Carolina. He married Esther Horner on October 21, 1802 in Jefferson County,
Tennessee. Esther is a daughter of William and Elizabeth Allred Horner of
Pettsylvania and North Carolina.
Lewis and Esther had seven children; Robert; Elizabeth Miriam
"Betsie" married John B. Turner and Lorenzo Dow Hill; Jewis Jr.
married Sarah Shorpshire; George Horner married Annie Hamm; Mary
"Polly" is noted below; Susan married Absolum Wagoner; and Elizabeth
"Zilpha" married John Hufstedler. (Zilpha is NOT a proven daughter) A Sample of

Mary "Polly" Russell was born in 1810 in Tennessee. She
married Henry B. Turner about 1825 in Perry County, Tennessee. Henry is a son
of John B. and Isabell Bishop Turner of South Carolina.
Polly and Henry had seven sons; John R. married Neoma Russell;
Elias D. is noted below; George Washingtom married Sarah Caroline Anderson;
William C. married Sarah Ann Owens; Lewis J. married Serena Carolina Kelly;
Henry Horner married Serena Webb; and Andrew J.

Elias D. and Mariah Huggins Turner
Elias D. Turner was born January 24, 1830 in Perry County,
Tennessee. About 1850 he married Vianna Stamps in Franklin County, Arkansas,
with whom he had one daughter, Mary Ann who married James S. Scott.
After Vianna died, Elias D. married
Mariah Huggins, a daughter of John B. and Sarah Farris Huggins of North and South
Carolina. They had nine children, all born in Franklin County, Arkansas; John
Christopher married Sarah Carr; George Eli married Nancy Catherin Moore;
Jennette F. "Jin" married William "Buck" Weaver; Sarah J.
married J. Wesley "Wes" Whitson; Herbert W. died a boy; Eliza J.
married Dr. Enoch Randall Weaver; Parthenia S. married George B. Rose; Wallace
A. married Francis I. "Della" Carr; and Richard P. married Alice

John and William Russell are mentioned several times in The
History of Pittsylvania County by: Clement, 1929. On page 41, "John and
William Russell came in 1743 and gave their name to Russell's Creek on Smith
River". On page 52, "William Russell is appointed surveyor of the
road from the falls of Banister to Fuqua's Ford (on Stanton River)". On
page 56, "When Tithables were taken in 1750 William Russell was on Sandy
River". On page 123, "on the motion of Sundry inhabitants (being
Dissenters) leave is granted to build a Meeting House on lands of William
Russell, on the Drafts of Difficult Creek. (1755)".
