Philip and wife Jane are the first of our Huggins known to me. Philip is said to have had had two brothers, John, and Luke who settled in either New York, Baltimore, or Boston. Philip settled in North Carolina around 1770 and on to Tennessee around 1800. Nothing is known of John. Brother Luke married Elenore Nellie Shelfer.

The oldest son of Phillip is John B., who was born September 22, 1792 in Buncomb County, North Carolina and married Sarah D. Farris in Lauderdale County, Alabama on October 14, 1819. Sarah is a daughter of the Reverand Richard and Elizabeth, maiden name unknown, Faires of South Carolina and Alabama.

John B. and Sarah had nine children born in Alabama, Tennessee, and Arkansas; Hettie married Noel S. Riffe and Cardwell B. R. Smith; James Morris married Parthenia Susan Edwards Webb, Mary Knight, and Mrs. P. G. Fowler; Elizabeth Farris married Perry Flint Webb; Richard Farris married Susannah Tabitha Garrett; Mariah is noted below; Andrew Jackson died a boy; Sarah Jane married George Washington James, Abner "Alne" Bourland, and Uriah Jackson Nichols; Harriet married William H. McAlister; and Eliza Ann married James Crosby.

 

Elias D. and Mariah Huggins Turner

Mariah Huggins was born February 20, 1829 in Fayette County, Tennessee and married Elias D. Turner, his second wife, on January 23, 1853 in Franklin County, Arkansas. Elias D. is a son of Henry B. and Mary "Polly" Russell of Tennessee.

Mariah and Elias had nine children, all born in Franklin County, Arkansas; John Christopher married Sarah Carr; George Eli married Nancy Catherin Moore; Jennette F. "Gin" married William "Buck" Weaver; Sarah J. married J. Wesley "Wes" Whitson; Herbert W. died a teen; Eliza J. married Dr. Enoch Randall Weaver; Parthenia S. married George B. Rose; Wallace A. married Francis I. "Della" Carr; and Richard P. married Alice Nichols.

These children and their families are noted in "A Sample of Arkansas Turners".
