George Horner, born in 1725 in
Maryland or Virginia, is the oldest known. The name of his first
wife is unknown, and she probably died in Hampshire County, West Virginia by
1760, after the family had moved from York County, Pennsylvania to Frederick
County, Virginia, now West Virginia, in 1748. They had three proven children;
William is noted below; Ann married John Owens; and James.
After the death of his first wife,
George married Elizabeth Holloway about 1755, in Orange County, North Carolina.
Unknown when and where Elizabeth was born but she died after 1784 in Orange
County. George died 1791-1799 in St. Mary’s District. They had five
children; Lydia married John Watson although researchers, for years, identified
her husband as Timothy Cude; Christina; George (twin)
married Priscilla Winslow; Thomas (twin) married Sarah Fussel;
and Priscilla married William Montgomery.
According to the Lower Shenandoah
Valley by: J.
E. Norris 1890, “George Horner laid warrant for 200 acres of land in
Frederick County in 1748. About 1760 he moved to St. Mary’s District of
Orange County, North Carolina where he had a plantation on the Little River. It
is believed that George Horner probably married first in York County,
Pennsylvania and that his son William was born there in 1746.”
